Acetone; butalbital; chlordiazepoxide; diazepam; ethanol; isopropanol; methanol; norchlordiazepoxide; nordiazepam; pentobarbital; phenobarbital; salicylates

Special Instructions

Sample is tested for the presence of the substances listed in a higher place (encounter Exam Includes). Drugs will be quantitated; please indicate suspected substance, if possible.

Expected Turnaround Time

3 - 5 days

Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should exist allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

4 mL serum and 7 mL whole claret

Minimum Book

1.5 mL serum and 0.5 mL whole blood

Container

Red-top tube and grey-acme (sodium fluoride) tube

Collection

Separate serum from cells and transfer to a plastic transport tube. Submit total, unopened gray-superlative tube for analysis of volatiles. Do not use a gel-barrier tube. The employ of gel-barrier tubes is not recommended due to slow assimilation of the drug by the gel. Depending on the specimen book and storage fourth dimension, the decrease in drug level due to assimilation may be clinically significant.
